Team Jamaica emerged as the 2023 champions at the Central American & Caribbean Youth Chess Festival, outshining 14 other nations, including the formidable teams from host country Trinidad and Tobago (2nd place) and Cuba (3rd place). The tournament, spanning six days, featured more than 230 players representing 15 different countries in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Jamaica’s players proudly brought home the winners’ trophy, with several of them gracing the podium. Emilia-Rose Leake, the Female U10 Champion, and Rajvir Shergil, the U8 Absolute Champion, along with their coach FM Warren Elliott, shared their triumphant journey on Sunrise.
