Despite the challenges, our education sector is thriving with the addition of over 1,000 new teachers- Minister of Education Fayval Williams shared the news during the Sitting of the House of Representatives.

With a surge in teacher resignations before the new academic year, the Ministry of Education and Youth had to act swiftly. They have implemented an ‘out-of-cycle payroll’ to ensure that these new heroes of education get paid this September.

Normally, documents must be submitted by the last working day of the previous month to receive payment in the following month. However, given the urgency, the deadline was extended to September 12, and the ministry’s dedicated staff worked tirelessly, even on weekends, to process submissions.

Out of 782 new teacher files received, 624 were successfully processed, while 158 were incomplete. Additionally, 373 files arrived after the extended deadline. Minister Williams assured that an ‘out-of-cycle payroll’ will take place in the last week of September to ensure all teachers are compensated.

Minister of Education and Youth, Fayval Williams, says the addition of 1,155 new teachers for the 2023/2024 school year is “more than adequate”. She was responding to Opposition Dr Angela Brown Burke who sought to ascertain the difference between the new teachers vs. those who have resigned and or migrated.
