This year marks the 37th anniversary of the iconic 16 June Soweto uprising, and the commemoration will be held under the theme “Working Together For Youth Development and a Drug Free South Africa.” We reflected on the significance of the day, celebrated in Newcastle, Kwazulu-Natal. In 1975, the youth united in protest against the imposition of Afrikaans as a language of instruction, sparking a powerful movement for change.
