Is inflammatory speech from political platforms getting out of hand?

As political tensions continue to simmer, there is fear they may be ratcheted up as a result of inappropriate statements made by political representatives.

Within the space of a month two such incidents have sparked outrage from civil society as well as the private sector and questions are being asked as to whether the Office of the Political Ombudsman should be empowered to punish those found in contravention.

Deputy Secretary of the People’s National Party (PNP), Basil Waite was forced to apologize for recent comments he made at a party conference.

Less than three weeks later, another PNP representative, this time Vice President Mikael Phillips, has gotten into hot water over statements made on a political platform in North West Manchester.
