While there has been much debate whether online booking platforms such as Airbnb are having a negative impact on the hotel industry, there has been less discussion regarding its impact on the traditional travel agencies.

According to Carey Wallace, executive director of the Tourism Enhancement Fund, travel agencies remain relevant despite the rise of platforms like Airbnb as they (travel agencies) have acute knowledge of the product and therefore are more facilitative in choosing the right experience.

According to Judith James-Watt, managing director of travel agency, Leisure For Pleasure Holidays and Tours, says that the additional services provided by traditional travel agencies remains attractive to potential visitors. She further states that the traditional travel agencies takes the stress of visitors which new platforms fails to provide.

Meanwhile, Mr Wallace says he recognized the benefit of the Airbnb model and confirmed the Tourism ministry’s promotion of the platform.
