New Measures Amid Spike In COVID-19 Cases – With hundreds of positive Coronavirus, COVID-19 results in the past week; the government has introduced strict measures island-wide and is limiting political campaigns as the general election draws near. Jamaica in the last seven days has recorded more than 400 new cases of the Coronavirus. As a result, Prime Minister Andrew Holness says a number of activities including parties, church convention, funerals, and other gatherings are responsible for the alarming uptick in COVID-19 cases.

As he urges Jamaicans to comply with the health guidelines, the Prime Minister points out that more than one thousand persons have been charged for breaching the orders of the Disaster Risk Management Act. Holness says the disregard for protocols during Nomination Day, on August 18,  could also cause a further increase in cases in the coming days.
