There has been a 15 per cent fare increase, however, taxi operators in Kellits, Clarendon believe the fare table needs to be revised as they are getting way less than what was initially given to them.

While some transport operators have been approved to collect a 15 per cent fare increase to a rate, they have had to withstand for 8 years but for some, it’s not the same.

Taxi drivers who take residents from Kellits, Clarendon to Linstead St. Catherine say the recent fare table reflects a lower fare than what they have been collecting for years and are calling for a revision.

The drivers say they do not believe the transport authority is taking into consideration the length of the route which takes up to one and a half hours to arrive.

Passengers, who often time complain about fare increases were also in agreement with the taxi operators. Passengers say $400 would’ve been a justifiable amount.

Drivers say their main passengers are higglers and farmers who sell their goods at the Linstead Market.

However, they say if the fare isn’t adjusted many of them will be leaving the profession.
