Senior Superintendent of police in the St. Andrew North Division, Aaron Fletcher says turf war and extortion are fueling the bloodletting and frequent attacks. The recent flare-up of gang violence in several St. Andrew communities has left some residents in fear.

With the ongoing violence in the St. Andrew communities of Ackee Walk, Greendale, and Parklane, SSP Fletcher, says investigations are still ongoing regarding the recent shooting on the Greendale drive earlier this week. According to SSP Fletcher when the police were summoned and arrived on the scene, it was revealed that the gunmen were only testing their guns.

SSP Fletcher notes drive-by shootings have been prevalent island-wide and more rampant especially in the corporate area. He says residents in these volatile communities often use barricades as a means to keep gunmen in vehicles at bay. Meanwhile, the officer says the police continue to heighten their presence in the space to stem the turf war.
