7 MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF FAKE GOODS SEIZED

Goods estimated at seven million dollars were confiscated by the police from a store on Luke Lane, in downtown Kingston, Yesterday.

Assistant Superintendent, Victor Barrett of the Police Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch, says the vast majority of the goods seized at the location were counterfeit.

He says the owner of the clothing store will be charged under the Trademark Act as well as the Consumer Protection Act for deceptive conduct.

He pointed out that consumers are not aware that these counterfeit goods sometimes contain harmful chemicals and cautioned  consumers to be careful of the places where they purchase items of clothing.

The Police say they have  seized approximately twenty million dollars worth of counterfeit goods in the Downtown, Kingston area and will continue their efforts to eradicate the illicit activity across the island.
